Final Invoice Report
On May 27, 2020, Brightline and the City of Dania Beach entered into Reimbursement Agreement for the
construction of supplemental safety measures at two highway-roadway grade crossings. These
improvements are part of a larger Project funded in part by a Federal Railroad Administration CRISI grant
called the South Florida East Coast Rail Corridor Intrusion Prevention Project.

Cemetery
This memo summarizes the results of archaeological monitoring associated with the Brightline
construction project at Dania Memorial Park Cemetery/West Lawn Cemetery on November 15,
2022. This monitoring was conducted in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic
Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966 (Public Law 89-655, as amended), as implemented by 36 CFR
Part 800 (Protection of Historic Properties, as amended); Chapter 267, Florida Statutes (F.S.); and
Chapter 872.05, F.S. All work has been conducted by a professional archaeologist who meets the
Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards (48 FR 44716).
During the month of November 2022, archaeological monitoring was provided at the following
location:
• Dania Memorial Park Cemetery/ West Lawn Cemetery site
The monitoring date and a summary of the findings are provided in the sections below.
No human remains were identified during monitoring. No archaeological artifacts were identified
at any time during the month of November.
Dania Memorial Park Cemetery/West Lawn Cemetery, Broward County
Archaeological monitoring was conducted at the Dania Memorial Park Cemetery/ West Lawn
Cemetery site (Figure 1) on the following date:
• 11/15/2022
The archeological monitor was present for all excavations associated with the planned installation
of new signs at Old Dixie Highway. This work included the excavation of three pits within the
existing FEC ROW and the boring of a hole between them to place wires (Figures 2 and 3).
Excavation was done using a small excavator as well as hand shovels. The pits were approximately
4 feet wide, 6 feet long, and 6 feet deep. A ditch witch machine bored the holes and pushed the new
wires through.

Pit 1 was located along the east side of the FEC ROW and north of W. Dixie Highway (Figures 4
and 5). Pit 2 was located along the west side of the FEC ROW and North of W. Dixie Highway
(Figures 6 and 7). Pit 3 was located along the east side of the FEC ROW and south of W. Dixie
Highway (Figure 8).
The excavated soil varied in color from brown to gray. Layers closer to the surface were sandier and
contained more rock fill than the more natural soil layers deeper in the pits. Intrusive material
included pipes, wires, concrete slabs, and rock fill.
The photos below (Figures 2-8) document the work done at the location monitored. The monitoring
log for the Dania Memorial Park Cemetery/ West Lawn Cemetery site can be found in Attachment
A.
